Australia extends post-study work rights by two years for international students
Australia is expanding post-study work rights for foreign students in fields where there is a shortage of skilled workers.
With revised post-study work visa rights, international students in all fields will be permitted to remain in Australia for an additional two years.
More than 400 bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs will be included in the Temporary Graduate Work visa (subclass 485) beginning in July 2023.
As a result, undergraduates enrolled in any of these 400 programs will be entitled to live and work in Australia for four years as opposed to just two. The maximum length of stay for master’s students will increase to five years from three, while the maximum length of stay for Ph.D. graduates in any field will increase to six years from four.
Although the government has not yet disclosed the degrees covered, reports indicate that nursing, engineering, and IT students will be given priority.
