US Citizenship Act 2021 ‘No more Aliens, now “Non- Citizens”

The US Citizenship Act of 2021, establishes a new system to responsibly manage and secure our borders, restore humanity and American values into the immigration system.

Purpose of this bill: The legislation of immigration priorities laid out by President Joe Biden modernizes the immigration system and prioritizes keeping families together, growing the US economy, responsibly managing the border with smart investments, addressing the root causes of migration from Central America and ensuring that the United States remains a refuge for that fleeing persecution.

The Act will Provide:

An earned roadmap to citizenship for undocumented individuals by allowing undocumented individuals to apply for temporary legal status, with the ability to apply for green cards after five years if they pass criminal and national security background checks and pay their taxes and then allow them to obtain citizenship after three years. Applicants must be physically present in the United States on or before January 1, 2021.

The Bill embraces diversity by including the NO BAN Act that prohibits discrimination based on religion and limits presidential authority to issue future bans. The Bill further supports families by more explicitly including permanent partnerships and eliminating discrimination facing LGBTQ+ families and allows immigrants with approved family sponsorship petitions to join families in the United States on a temporary basis while they wait for green cards to become available.

The bill promotes immigrant and refugee integration and citizenship by the new funding provided to the state and local governments and various institutions. The bill also protects workers from exploitation and to improve the employment verification process.

The legislation supplements existing border resources with technology and infrastructure to expedite screening and enhance the ability to identify narcotics and other contraband at every land, air and sea port of entry.

The Act will address the root causes of Migration right from the source and will improve the immigration courts and protect vulnerable individuals along with supporting the asylum seekers and other vulnerable population.

Additional modification:

The bill recognizes America as a nation of immigrants by changing the word “Alien” to “non-citizen” in the immigration laws.

It will also end the 3 and 10-year bans on re-entry for undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the country. It also predicts that the number of diversity visas issued for countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. will increase from 55,000 to 80,000.
