EURO HITS LOW, WHAT IT MEANS FOR STUDENTS?

The euro and the US dollar reached parity on July 12. In other words, the value of the exchange rate changed so that one euro equals one dollar. Only twice since 2002 has the euro dropped to this level against the dollar. The euro’s decline in value relative to the dollar indicates that investors are shifting funds away from the Eurozone and toward the US.

At present the value of 1 euro is 81.13 rupees. Over the last 10 months, the value of Euro has depreciated against INR as well, in the month of July 2021 the Indian rupee was valued at 88.23 to a Euro.

With its depreciation in Euro, it has become affordable to the students willing to study abroad especially in European countries. For studies, the course fee will be relatively less costly due to the depreciation of the euro. Experts say that while the short-term impact on education may be limited, Indian students in Europe will spend less with the euro depreciating against other currencies. The Euro depreciation of almost 10% results in saving in University fees paid by the students by the same percentage i.e almost 10%.

THE BUDI SYSTEM FOR KIDS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY

Source- Stanford University

Blynn Shideler, a medical student at Stanford, created a wearable gadget to make everyday physical treatment more convenient for children with cerebral palsy. Children with cerebral palsy, a collection of conditions that impact posture, mobility, and balance, may require daily sessions with a physical therapist to develop their strength and motor abilities. Shideler believed there had to be a better way while still a Columbia University undergrad studying bioengineering. He came up with a tool that fills the gap for the community of people with cerebral palsy.

He worked with other students to develop a tool that would facilitate these children’s therapeutic exercises at home or elsewhere. BUDI, short for “Biofeedback Upper-limb Device for Impairment,” is the outcome. It is a large bracelet made of sensors that detects motion and gives feedback on how the user might want to change their movement.

Columbia Biomedical Engineering awarded BUDI the title of “Most Outstanding Design Project,” and the university posted about it on social media. The cerebral palsy community took note. People with CP started looking forward to using the product.
