NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Biomedical Research Centers (BRC)  received the grant.

The NIHR Oxford BRC Director, Professor Helen McShane said that this funding is an appreciation of the high caliber work done by our researchers in recent years.

The NIHR Oxford BRC will receive £86.6 million over the following five years to support 15 research areas. NIHR Oxford BRC is a collaboration between the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust.

The NIHR Oxford Health BRC is a partnership between the University and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT). It will receive £35.4 million to fund research on 11 different subjects. The prize will establish a network of premier brain health centers throughout English universities and NHS locations.

The Oxford BRC is one of the five original BRCs established in 2007 and just marking its 15th anniversary. It conducts research on various health-related topics including cancer, genetics, vaccines, diabetes, cardiovascular medicine, and microbiology. The Oxford Health BRC was established in 2017 as a center focusing on dementia and mental health.

The BRCs bring together academics and physicians to transfer scientific advances into potentially innovative medical treatments, diagnostics, and technology that help NHS patients.

Record 75 Indian universities are listed in the 2023 Times World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 list approximately 75 higher education institutions from India. This is more than the 31 institutions in 2017 and the 56 Indian institutions in 2020. This year, India is the sixth most represented country in the Rankings, and around seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) made it. These include IIT Mandi, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Patna, IIT Bhubaneswar, and IIT Guwahati.

According to the Rankings 2023, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is the nation’s top-ranked institution. The institute is moved up one group band from 2022. This year, India has six additional entrants. With a ranking of 351-400, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences is India’s joint second-best newcomer. Indian Institute of Science (251-300), JS Academy of Higher Education and Research (351-400), Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (351-400), Alagappa University (401-500), and Mahatma Gandhi University (401-500) are the top five Indian universities according to THE WUR.

This year’s World Rankings feature 1,799 universities from 104 nations and regions, which is 137 more than last year’s edition and the most in the 19-year history of the rankings. First place goes to the University of Oxford in the UK for the seventh year in a row.

The Impact of Blockchain on the Education Industry

The term “blockchain” wasn’t prevalent a few years ago. These days, the financial industry uses it a lot. The phrases blockchain and cryptocurrency have occasionally been used synonymously. Does blockchain have uses in other sectors, including education? Yes, it has. Blockchain is most frequently linked to digital currencies like Bitcoin. Data entered on a blockchain is kept in chronologically linked blocks, which makes it relatively simple to trace the data’s origins and confirm its legitimacy.

Blockchain can be used in the fields of healthcare, land documentation, and education because it is a global ledger that is also safe. Data security and data protection are two advantages of using blockchain in education.

During the pandemic, the education industry quickly adapted to digitalization. Blockchain technology has the power to transform this industry. The collaboration and management of academic records between students and teachers can be substantially changed by blockchain, first and foremost. Blockchain’s distributed ledger technology can potentially have a positive, major impact on the transparency and accountability of the education sector.

Indian students overseas are more likely to remain in developed nations, says report

Source: business-standard.com

According to Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) research on global migration patterns, among all foreign students studying abroad in economically developed nations, Indians are the most likely to stay back and work in their host nation.

By focusing on the countries of origin and destination of students enrolling for academic degrees in OECD countries, the report “International Migration Outlook 2022,” published in October, offers an overview of developments in international migration flows and policies up until 2021. The OECD is an organization made up primarily of industrialized economies.

The majority of international students in OECD nations are from China (22%), followed by India (10%). According to the survey, this is because these two nations are home to approximately a third of the world’s population between the ages of 20 and 29.

The report claims that Indian and Chinese students behave “remarkably differently” when it comes to extending their study visas or acquiring employment permits so they can remain in their host nations. Students from India are not just more likely to stay back on extended permits, but the chances of them holding a work permit five years into their stay is also the highest.

Indians have significantly higher retention rates than Chinese students in almost every OECD nation, including Canada, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Japan, according to a comparison of the stay rates of Indian and Chinese students who obtained their education permits in 2015.

Till next issue.
