PROMOTING CREATIVE EXPRESSION IN SPACE TRAVEL
Source- Yale News
Think about a space suit. It has a cool mirror visor and is practical. However, you cannot dance in it. Though it’s unlikely that the first astronaut to walk on Mars will spin on the red planet’s surface, Yale University researchers are considering ways to promote artistic expression in space travel.
In the spring course “The Mechanical Artifact: Ultra Space,” Yale students from several disciplines were encouraged to design and construct a flight suit that would aid future astronauts in expressing their creativity in zero gravity.
Emily Judson ’22 M.E.M., a student in the class, wore the suit on a research flight that made a series of upward and downward arcs, or parabolas, to simulate microgravity and zero-gravity.
Each of the five groups that made up the class was in charge of coming up with, designing, and creating a certain part of the suit. The teams were also tasked with building a model of an environment in space where someone might wear the suit.
The students looked at artwork, architecture, and scientific study on habitation in space as they developed their concepts. They read science fiction as well, including pieces from Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” series, while they thought about how to make science fiction a reality.
The suit they developed, made of a combination of repurposed materials and cleverly designed components, was motivated by their investigation of issues relating to the role of architecture, design, and the arts in humankind’s future in space.
The final flight was a phenomenal experience for the Yale students wearing the suit designed by them.

CAMBRIDGE INITIATES PROGRAM TO HELP DISPLACED CHILDREN
War has compelled two-thirds of the 7.5 million children in Ukraine to leave their homes. The foundational elements of childhood—family, shelter, and security—are in rapid decline.
On August 8, the Ministry of Education & Science in Ukraine and Cambridge Partnership for Education inked an agreement with the goal of helping displaced Ukraine children’s education.
Under a new agreement between the Ukrainian education ministry and Cambridge Partnership for Education, displaced Ukrainian children will receive additional support to resume their education.
People, groups, and countries from all over the world are contributing to the education of Ukrainian children. By making it simpler for schools, governments, and organizations to work together, this agreement aims to maximize their efforts. Cambridge and the Ministry believe that by doing this, the effect of each individual action on the futures of Ukraine and its children will be increased.
As part of this new collaboration, Cambridge Partnership for Education will map the math and science learning pathways in nations hosting Ukrainian students. This will allow researchers to compare what students have already been taught with the curriculum in their new country and identify gaps and crossovers.
The organization also intends to assist in the creation of learning records for children who have been relocated through digital assessments of their math, science, and vocabulary skills, which it claims will help them better understand what kind of support is required. The organization also has plans to provide additional teacher training to help schools support Ukrainian children.
The program is aimed at all of the Ukrainian children who have been relocated and Cambridge Partnership for Education intends to deliver these activities in several host countries.
The organization stated that the support has already started and that it will keep looking for funds for the program’s final stages.
