It is a type of test for students who aspire to join post-graduate programs in the US and other countries. ETS organizes two kinds of GRE tests. The first one is a general test and the second one is divided into subject test.

The GRE general test fee is $205 worldwide. There are a few countries which may have a differential test fee rate.

How many times can a test taker sit for the GRE exams?

The GRE exam takes place in two modes. If you appear for the computer-based test, you can take it five times a year with an interval of 21 days. The paper-based test, one can appear with no restrictions as the exam is held only three times per year and it takes place in the months of February, October and November.

GRE Structure:

The GRE General Test partitioned into three major sections that include analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.

  • The Analytical Writing section tests abilities related to writing and critical thinking.
  • The verbal reasoning test aims to measure a candidate’s ability to evaluate.

Score Calculations:

The scores of the GRE General Test are valid for up to 5 years from the date of testing. Perfect score is no less than 340. These are the following scoring patterns for the GRE General Test:

  • Verbal Reasoning: 130-170
  • Quantitative Reasoning: 130-170
  • Analytical Writing: 0 to 6 points

Good Scores:

Nothing would beat a perfect 340 but on an average as per different studies a score of 315+ is considered to be a good score while something in range of early 300 would be categorised as above average score.

Preparation for an examination such as GRE requires a lot of effort and hard work. According to experts, you must dedicate at least 4 to 12 weeks of your time to prepare for GRE.
